Del Ray Music Festival–10am-10pm, Mount Vernon Recreation Center fields: Celebrate the rich diversity and talent of the Del Ray community at the Fifth Annual Del Ray Music Festival. The Del Ray Music Festival includes music, food, games, and a chance to ring in the summer with your friends and neighbors. The festival features a variety of music which have included reggae, jazz, blues, swing, folk, country, Celtic, and rock. The majority of the musicians who take the stage are residents of the neighborhood—something that makes this an extra special show for the performers and gives everyone a chance to hear some wonderful local talent.
National Capital Barbecue Battle–Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m, Pennsylvania Avenue between 9th & 14th Sts. The National Capital Barbecue Battle is an annual competition between top BBQ restaurants from the Washington, DC area and around the country. If you love barbecue you’ll love the food samples, cooking demonstrations, interactive displays and children’s activities at this sizzling summer festival. The nation’s best barbecue teams cook-off for over $40,000 in cash and prizes in two major contests. The Barbecue Battle features live entertainment including 30 rock, R&B, jazz, and blues bands performing on three state-of-the-art stages. Patrons will also enjoy the interactive exhibits like the NBA Nation Basketball Tour and children’s activities including magicians, games and surprises.
Northern Virginia Brewfest–Saturday, 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM, Sunday, 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Morven Park in Leesburg. This Celebration of American Beer features over 50 of America’s best breweries, a variety of food to complement the craft beers and great local and regional bands to entertain you.
DC Caribbean Carnival Festival and Parade–Saturday, 11am-8pm, $10: The Caribbean Style Mardi Gras Parade with costumed masqueraders representing the Caribbean, Latin America and the Diaspora will transform Georgia Avenue into a “Caribbean Bourbon Street” with the sights and sounds of the Caribbean. This year’s Parade begins on Kansas at Georgia Avenue, NW and ends at Barry Place, NW across from the Howard University Campus leading to the Festival. The Carnival Festival happens simultaneously with the Parade on Saturday June 25 from 12:00 Noon until 8:00 PM at the Howard Center Parking facility on Georgia Avenue at Bryant Street, NW. The venue will be transformed into a “Tropical Arena” with international foods, crafts and live performances from local and international artists.
Sunday
Georgetown Waterfront Festival–Sunday, 12pm-3pm, Washington Harbour: Come out and play in Georgetown! To celebrate summer, we’re hosting a fun-filled Georgetown Waterfront Summer Celebration. An exciting way to cool down while having a blast, the highlight of the celebration will be The Great Georgetown Water Balloon Battle, where you’re invited to come toss hundreds of pre-filled water balloons and compete to win exciting prizes. Families are invited to bring the kids! There will be a special children’s area with balloon sculptors, face painting and more where kids can play and join in on the festivities, plus a live steel drum band.
