Their mission is simple yet very poignant, especially this week:
“We Ride For those who Died!
Our Mission is to raise public awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have sacrificed their lives in the Line of Duty and to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C.”
This year’s ride is May 10-12. The route begins on the western edge of Richmond, goes to Charlottesville, Warrenton, and ends in Washington, D.C. The route is approximately 230 miles, and according to the Police Unity Tour website, is challenging with many hills. It is not for novice or first time riders. There is a map of the route on the website if you want to cheer them on.
Leading up to the ride, there are several fundraisers. Glory Days Grill in Centreville is hosting a fundraiser on Thursday, April 25, from 6-10pm. Glory Days is donating 10% of food sales all day, and Bartenders Night tips. Kevin Whalen, who is riding in honor of fallen Prince William County police officer, Chris Yung, and Glory Days Manager, Mark Huddleston, have organized a great night with raffles of Redskins, Nats, and Caps jerseys. There will be a special raffle of a Caps Team Jersey signed by the team, and there is a chance some Redskins player might show up to help with the raffles!
There is a second fundraiser on Sunday, April 28, at Joe’s Crab Shack in Fair Lakes from Noon-6pm.
Come on out to any or all of these events for a great cause!
