Capitol ConcertNational Symphony Orchestra Labor Day Capitol Concert. Guest vocalists: Nicole Parker and Christopher Johnstone. Gates open at 3pm. Open rehearsal at 3:30pm. Approximately 90 minutes. In case of inclement weather, the Concert will be moved to the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. Sunday, August 31, 2014, 8:00pm. US Capitol West Lawn. Free!

 

WaterstockWaterstock at Tim’s Rivershore Restaurant and Crab House. Four days of music, crabs, and boats! Live music starts at 1pm  on Saturday and Sunday, and at 12pm on Monday. Fireworks on Saturday at 10pm. Bands include Final Notice, Van Galen, Duffy Kane, Jameson Green, Gunston Manor Band, Burn, Zontar, and lots more! August 29 – September 1, 2014.

 

National Book FestivalLibrary of Congress National Book Festival 2014. Festival-goers can meet and hear firsthand from their favorite poets and authors, get books signed, enjoy special entertainment. In addition, stay up late for special new graphic novel, poetry, and film programs. Saturday, August 30, 2014. Walter E. Washington Convention Center. 10am – 10pm.

MD Renaissance FestivalMaryland Renaissance Festival. The year is 1521. King Henry VIII with his Queen, Katherine of Aragon, and their royal court visit the village of Rexel Grove, Oxfordshire, England, as part of their annual summer progress. Weekends through October 19, 2014. 10am – 7pm. Rain or shine! Seniors 62 and over are free on Labor Day! Adult tickets $17. Child tickets $8.

 

VA Scottish Games and FestivalVirginia Scottish Games and Festival. Pipe and Drum competitions and exhibitions. Highland athletic competitions. Fiddling. Highland dancing. Scottish Dog events. British car and bike show, and more! August 30 and 31, 2014 in Great Meadow in The Plains. Dogs are welcome! Adult tickets $20/1 day, $30/2 days. Child tickets $5 and free on Sunday.

 

War of 1812 in AlexandriaWar of 1812 in Alexandria, VA. Commemorating the bicentennial of Alexandria’s involvement in the War of 1812 featuring exhibits, food vendors, waterfront activities, and a rematch between Alexandria residents and the British Embassy! Cricket Match Saturday 12pm – 6pm. Yacht Race Sunday 11am. Tug of War Monday 3:30pm. August 30 – September 1, 2014.

 

Kennedy Center Page-to-StageThe Kennedy Center Page to Stage. Annual new play festival, this year featuring more than 50 DC area theater companies and showcasing works to be included in next year’s citywide Women’s Voices Theater Festival. Free readings, open rehearsals of plays and musicals all weekend for free! Limited seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.
